Matthias Tantau Jr. took the helm in 1953, and under his guidance, Rosen Tantau introduced several now-renowned hybrid tea rose varieties. Celebrated stems like the “Super Star,” “Blue Moon,” and “Whisky Mac” were added to the flourishing collection.
History
In the world of rose breeding, Rosen Tantau is synonymous with innovation and excellence. Founded in North Germany in 1906, the company was established by Mathias Tantau Sr. after he gained years of valuable expertise working at nurseries across Europe. While he first made a name for himself by introducing striking hybrids, the breeder first solidified its reputation as a global innovator by introducing the cut rose “Garnette” variety in 1947.
Redefining the Beauty of Roses
In 1985, Hans Jürgen Evers took control, leading the company to unprecedented growth and diversification. His son, Christian Evers, also joined the company at the turn of the century, further bolstering its success. Together, this father-son duo introduced exclusive varieties like “Cherry Brandy” and “Sweet Haze,” strengthening Rosen Tantau’s reputation as one of the world’s foremost rose breeders.
Today, Rosen Tantau still operates in Uetersen, Germany, on 50 hectares and two additional hectares of modern greenhouse facilities. With millions of rose bushes grown annually, Rosen Tantau is not only a hub for rose breeders but a testament to a century-long commitment to high-quality blooms.
